Yellow Lab With Reindeer Antlers

Since my next door neighbours don't have a dog, they wanted me to draw a picture from their calendar for them. It was the December photo.

The scan is a bit small but you should be able to see it larger by clicking on it. I have been dwelling on this drawing for a while because I went off graphite for a few weeks but now I'm liking it again. They also want me to draw a picture of Jockie because they love him like their own dog pretty much (when we went away to Europe they looked after him so they've grown very attached to him) :). I will probably be doing that in pastel pencils to get to know the medium a bit more.

Six Months

Dusty is officially six months old today. The whole day there was no rain so we could take the dogs for a long(ish) walk. Yay!

Snackin' on 'marmite on toes'.

 Stealin' beds.

 Zoomies!

 Stealin' sticks.

New Pastel Pencils

I tested out my new pastel pencils a few days ago. First I did something small. A chocolate labrador eye.

Then after that I went straight into drawing a portrait for my dad. It's of our cat that died in 2008 from kidney failure.

In memory of Spock.

If anyone else knows anything about pastel pencils and they want to give me any tips about it, feel free.

So So Wet

It seems like Jock is right about the floods. It's been pouring and pouring for at least a week and the river is higher than high. It is so high. We think it's going to get higher than last year's flood. There is a post that the flood water usually gets up to so I want to see if that goes under. Because we live on a hill but are right next to the river we get to see all the action but never go under. If we went under, the whole town would be under. Crazy but true.

As you can see, Dusty isn't too impressed about the whole situation.

 Please, make it stop!!!

The height of the river. A bit lower than it was in the pictures in Jock's post.

After the little trip to see the river the dogs went crazy. Jock managed to scratch the edge of Lucy's eye with a stick. Luckily it didn't get the actual eye.

I love the dog's faces in this photo. Lucy's is pure joy and Jock's is pure intensity for the stick. They're funny.

The Word of Jock: Floods

 Hey, it's Jock here.
I've decided that whenever I have the chance I'm going to steal the pooter. And because this blog is about us dogs, I thought I would have the right to put some of my thoughts on it.
Now, I've been thinking lately about how wet it's been. I recall that last year there were so many storms (which I HATE) that the river that we live next to came really high. So high that the rock that sticks are thrown from was nearly under. I found some copies on the pooter of what happened that time of year:

Too high.

My beautiful self and the lady Lucy.

 Enter!

Swimmin'.

Of course this is what it's supposed to look like:

I don't like floods because we're not allowed to play fetch too far out. They say we might get sucked away in a current or something. I dunno. Stoopid.
I hope no one minds me being here, but I thought you might like to know what I thought about instead of the boring old yabber about how amazing it is when I run after a ball. And how it's apparantly hilarious when that puppy comes running up to me and pees himself. I just find it annoying, meself.
I hope I can woof to you again soon, maybe I'll get the chance in a couple of days again.
 Tail wags and sniffs,
  Jock

PS. It's the actual blog owner now. Just wanted to say that since google has been doing their weird updatey thing I now have about 1.3 thousand views on my blog. Woohoo!

Cuteness and a Capsicum

Finally Dusty is getting a bit more reliable. I told him to do a stay (I didn't really care whether it was a sit or a drop stay because I just wanted him to stay) and he did. But he was sitting on the step with no collar on with the door open to outside. I was really impressed because I was waving a toy around to get his attention because mum wanted a photo. He didn't budge.

I did have the lead in the background and his collar ready just in case, but I still wanted to see what he would do.
Now to the capsicum. Mum was doing some gardening and had him on the lead. Well, Dusty decided to help so he went and picked a capsicum. When mum was done, he carried it back and started eating it. Yes, a capsicum. I don't even think Lucy would eat that.

Well, it must have been pretty tasty!

Huxley and Coz

I went to a friend's house a couple of days ago. They also have dogs there.
Huxley:

And Coz:

Huxley is a rescue dog. They think she is half rhodesian ridgeback, and I think her other half is english springer spaniel. She's definately the gentler and less energetic of the two, but she's still pretty cool.
Coz is half dingo. She is hyperactive and would play fetch all day if given the chance. She lives in the pool area, but never swims. Just drinks. :P

She also now has a blog! Here's the link: http://mycaninecompanions.blogspot.com/

All Three Doggies

Jock was worn out from playing fetch for a while. I also got this awesome photo of Jock with eight legs!

Is it obvious? :)

Curly Tongue

One of the things I've noticed about Dusty is that sometimes when he pants his tongue curls up. And also when he yawns.

Whereas Jock's tongue... Well, not much needs to be said about that.

It just flops all over the joint.
Lucy is the only one who appears to have a sane tongue around here.

I don't know why, but I love doggie tongues!

Lilly Anne is up for adoption. We think she is in England.

He Finally Did It

He did this all on his own... With a little bit of encouragement (and hesitation).
Yes!!!

Blossum

Here's a drawing for a friend of their poodle, Blossum.

The photo of the drawing is a bit lighter than the real one.
Reference.

It's a shame it was in sepia, but I know the dog well enough to tell what she's like.

New Year Blog Make-Over

Ok, I know it's a tad bit late for a 'New Year' make-over, but it's close enough. As soon as I saw the paw prints I knew I had to use that. It's just too cute!
I try and make my posts interesting with photos, so I'll put a random one up:

:)

Auckland Zoo

As soon as I read Bodie's post on 'tennis toothpaste n elephunts' (I hope you don't mind me putting this up Bodie) I thought about the time we visited Auckland and went to the zoo. We saw some elephants too.

 And lions!

Not great pictures but we didn't have a good camera back then.
Because this post has nothing to do with dogs whatsoever, I'll just make it have dogs in it:

That's Jock in 2003... Still cute!

Puppies!

My brother's friend's dog had puppies six weeks ago. Eight of them! And guess what breed they are...
Border Collie x Kelpies!!!
One looks exactly like Jock:

And they're for sale! It seems like destiny... If only...

See the resemblance?

Who's Walking Who?

Whenever I take Dusty for a run, he likes to run off with the ribbon. Then he notices a ball and forgets all about the ribbon and chases after it. He's so funny. (The ribbon is there so that if he decides to run off then we have something to grab onto to stop him. He's really fast!)

Dusty + Bones = NOM

Dusty's advice: Always check to make sure no one's coming to steal your food.

"Don't you even think of comin' near me, Jock!" Though Dusty would probably pee himself if he did.

The Year Review

Even though this blog hasn't been going for a year, I'm still going to do a review of what's happened from when I started this blog in June. I'll put up a photo for each month:

June-   Chillaxin'

 July-   Leaf obsession

 August-   Ball obsession

 September-   Dusty joins us

October-   One of the rarest photos ever

 November-   Learning to swim

December-   The beautiful boy to end the year

Have a wonderful new year and I'll post next in 2012! :)
